British soldier dies in southern Iraq road accident
A British soldier has been killed in a road accident in southern Iraq, it has been announced today.
Rifleman Vincent Windsor, a member of 2nd Battalion The Royal Green Jackets, was killed in an accident on January 21 in Al Amarah. He was the 57th British soldier to die since the beginning of hostilies on March 19 last year.
A second soldier, who has not yet been named, was also seriously injured in the incident.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which is not thought to be related to hostile activity.
The 23-year-old, from Oxfordshire, was attached to 1st Battalion The Light Infantry in southern Iraq at the time of his death. He had served during the initial period of combat operations in March and April of 2003, and was on a second tour with the Battalion in Iraq when he was killed.
Lieutenant Colonel Harry Emck, the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Green Jackets, said: "Vincent was enormously popular and likeable, very down to earth, and with a great sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by all his colleagues and comrades in the 2nd Battalion The Royal Green Jackets."
Rifleman Vincent Windsor joined A Company of the 2nd Battalion The Royal Green Jackets in 1999. During his time with the Regiment, he served in Germany and Bosnia, and deployed on exercise to Poland.
He was detached for duty with the 1st Battalion The Light Infantry in September 2002 when they replaced the Royal Green Jackets in Paderborn, Germany, so that he could remain close to his German fiancee.

A hero war dog that saved soldiers’ lives by sniffing out IEDs in Afghanistan has been awarded the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross. Treo, an eight-year-old black Labrador, received the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) Dickin Medal from Princess Alexandra during a ceremony at the Imperial War Museum yesterday.

British soldier killed in Afghan accident
A British soldier has died during a "tragic accident" in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. The soldier, from 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment, died at the British base in Sangin on Sunday.

Inquest Into Death Of Senior Officer
The inquest into the death of the most senior officer to be killed in Afghanistan and his teenage colleague will begin today. Lt Col Rupert Thorneloe, 39, of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, was in charge of more than 1,000 soldiers. He is the most senior British Army officer to be killed in action since the Falklands.

Two UK Troops Die In Afghan Blast
A further two British soldiers have been killed in southern Afghanistan. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed they died in an explosion in Helmand province. Another six members of Nato forces were also wounded in the attack on Wednesday involving an improvised explosive device (IED).
