Sky News wins Channel 5 news contract
Sky News has won the contract to supply news to Channel 5, making it the first independent terrestrial broadcaster to break from ITN.
The deal will see Sky News provide the channel's lunchtime and evening bulletins for five years.
Sky News Sunrise has already been simulcast each weekday on Five at 6am to 6.30am, and at 7am to 7.55am on Saturday since the start of 2002: the first time Sky News had been seen on British terrestrial television.
Sky News will take over from five's current news supplier, ITN from January 2005.
Head of Sky News, Nick Pollard said: "We are delighted that Sky News has been awarded the five news contract and thank the channel for the confidence it has in our service. Our work for five will draw on new and existing resources and reflect all the authority and dynamism displayed by Sky over the past fifteen years."
Sky News has built its reputation on its live coverage of breaking news, and the deal follows Sky News winning the RTS News Channel of the Year Award for the third successive year last week.

Bangladesh Court Orders Parents To Release Daughter
An NHS doctor who was allegedly held captive by her family in Bangladesh is due to arrive home in the UK later. The parents of Dr Humayra Abedin, a 33-year-old trainee GP, were ordered to give her back her passport, after intervention by the courts and the British Foreign Office.

The mother of Moors murder victim Keith Bennett has given an interview telling of her shock at receiving a letter from his killer, Ian Brady. Winnie Bennett, 72, told Sky News that the letter was a shock. She said: "He knows a lot more than what he is saying.

Sky News Cameraman Killed In Egypt
A Sky news cameraman has been shot and killed while covering the ongoing violence in Cairo, Egypt. The broadcaster confirmed the death of 61-year-old Mick Deane on Wednesday. Mr Dean had worked for Sky for 15 years. In a statement, Head of Sky News, John Ryley, paid tribute to an "experienced journalist" and a "much-loved colleague".

News Corp Moves Closer To BSkyB Takeover
The Government has provisionally agreed to accept News Corp's proposed takeover of BSkyB, but will consult on further conditions. Earlier this year, News Corp had put forward the idea of spinning of Sky News as a separate company, in order to address concerns over its impartiality.
