Birmingham toddler killed in hit-and-run incident

A toddler has been run over and killed during an incident in Birmingham last night.

Shortly after 7pm, a 13-year-old girl and a two-and-a-half-year-old boy were walking along Burney Lane in the city when a white Toyota MR2 car collided with them. The car dragged the boy along the road for around 300 yards before speeding off.

The boy was taken to hospital but died as a result of his injuries in the early hours of this morning. The BBC has named the child as Joshua Berrill, from Ward End.

It has been reported that an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The girl sustained a fractured leg and is currently in a comfortable condition in hospital.

The car was later recovered by officers after being abandoned in Pan Croft in Bromford.

Police have urged anyone with information to contact them on 0845 113 5000.

Baby Dies After Being Bitten By Family Pet
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a baby bitten by dog in Sunderland. The three-week-old baby boy died in hospital following an incident at his home in Falkland Road. Police were called to the address at 04:15 on Saturday, 20 June. It is understood that the baby had been bitten by the families pet dog.

Boy Dies After Falling Into River In Argyll
A 10-year-old boy has died after falling into a river in Argyll while on holiday with his family. Emergency services were called to the incident at 13:45 on Tuesday. The boy was rescued by a passer-by after getting into difficulties. He was airlifted to Glasgow for treatment, however he later died at Yorkhill Hospital.

Mum Held After Kids Found Dead
The bodies of two young children have been found in a car in Heathfield, East Sussex. The children's mother is receiving medical treatment for apparent self-harm injuries. It is believed she made the call to police. Officers are now waiting to question her over the deaths. She has been named locally as 43-year-old Fiona Donnison.

Toddler In Pond Tragedy
An investigation has been launched after a three-year-old boy died when he fell into a garden pond. Ethan Read, from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, died in spite of his mother's attempts to revive him before the ambulance arrived. The incident happened at an address in Coney Weston. The death is being treated as unexplained.

Children Treated In Hospital Following Boating Accident
Two children are continuing to receive hospital treatment after being rescued from the River Avon following a boating accident in which their father and brother died. The family's rowing boat capsized in strong waters at a weir in Barford on Saturday afternoon. A local resident was able to pull the boy and girl from the water.
