Sixth Briton dies following Austrian coach crash

A sixth Briton injured in a coach crash in Austria earlier this month has died, the Foreign Office has said.

The name of the victim, who died in an intensive care unit, has not yet been released. Eight other Britons injured in the smash are still being treated in hospital.

The tragedy occurred when a coach carrying 49 passengers plunged down a motorway embankment and overturned near Hallein, 25kms outside Salzburg in Austria on August 10.

The driver of a minibus was arrested following the smash.

The majority of the passengers had been staying in the lake resorts of Traunkirchen, Fuschl and St Wolfgang and had been on an excursion to Berchtesgaden organised by the UK tour operator, Inghams.

More than 150 Red Cross members, 130 firefighters, 40 ambulances and seven helicopters were involved in the emergency efforts.
