Merseyside teen held over parents' murder

A Merseyside teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his parents, it has emerged today.

Seventy-two-year-old Sidney Brian Blackwell and his 61-year-old wife Jackie Blackwell were found dead at their home in Sandy Lane in Melling, Sefton, shortly before 4.30pm on Sunday.

The Blackwell's 18-year-old son Brian was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday morning, the BBC has reported.

Detectives were called to the couple's Sandy Lane house by a neighbour who said that he had not seen them for a number of weeks and was concerned about them, a police spokesperson said.

After entering the house, officers discovered the couple's bodies. It is understood that both victims had been dead for some time and had suffered gunshot wounds. Post mortem examinations are due to take place this afternoon.

The house was immediately sealed off and forensic scientists have visited the crime scene.
