Armed man takes children hostage in Germany

An armed man has seized several children and is holding them hostage in a house in Germany.

The man, who is armed with a knife, reportedly forced a number of children from a bus in the town of Ennepetal, about 40 miles northwest of Cologne.

Police have surrounded the house, where the man is believed to be holding four young hostages, believed to be aged between 10 and 12. However, some reports have indicated that as many as seven children may have been taken hostage.

One report has stated that the man is in early fifties and of possible Iranian origin. The motive for the seizure of the children is not yet known.

Man and three children killed in house explosion
A man and three children have died in an explosion at a house in Staffordshire. The blast happened just before midnight last night at the house in Hillside Road in Cheddleton, near Leek. Police are treating the blast as suspicious. A man in his 30s from Leek has been arrested in connection with the explosion.

Armed man in UK embassy in Tel Aviv
An armed man has reportedly breached security in the British embassy in Tel Aviv in Israel. According to reports, the man - who is believed to be of Arabic descent - broke into the car park in the compound on Thursday. He is reported to be armed with a gun. There are no reports of any shots being fired and embassy staff are reported to be safe.

Child killed in Cambodia school siege
One child, reported to be three-years-old, has been killed after a group of gunmen took over an international school in Cambodia. The siege happened at around 9:30am local time, when a group of gunmen burst into the school in Siem Reap, taking pupils and teachers hostage.
