Bowyer to face public order charges
Newcastle United footballer Lee Bowyer will appear in court to face a charge relating to his on-pitch fight with team-mate Kieron Dyer.
The alleged incident between Bowyer and Dyer took place during Newcastle’s Premier League match with Aston Villa at St James Park in April. Both players were sent off and were subsequently banned by the FA – Bowyer for four matches and Dyer for three. Newcastle also fined Bowyer six weeks’ wages, a sum reported to be in the region of £200,000.
However, Northumbria Police launched an investigation into the alleged incident, after a member of the public reportedly expressed “concerns”.
A Northumbria police spokesperson confirmed today that Mr Bowyer had been summonsed to attend Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, charged with a public order offence, under section 4 of the Public Order Act.
The spokesperson said that Kieron Dyer would not face any further police action over the incident.

Government launches consultation on smoking proposals
The government is to begin consultation on proposals to ban smoking in most public places in England. The government hopes that the consultation will lead to a Bill being introduced in the autumn. The ‘Choosing Health’ Public Health White Paper published last November, unveiled proposals to ban smoking in all enclosed public spaces and workplaces.

MoJ Reveal Drone Used In Prison Smuggle Attempt
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has revealed that a drone was used to try and smuggle a package into the grounds of HMP Bedford. An MoJ spokesperson said that the aircraft was "quickly intercepted by vigilant staff" on 06 March.
