Police study London bomber video shown on al-Jazeera

A security assessment is being carried out on a video made by one of the bombers behind the July 7 London attacks.

The video, broadcast on the Arabic news channel al-Jazeera, showed 30-year-old Mohammed Siddique Khan, blaming the British government’s policy on Iraq for suicide bomb attacks against the country’s citizens.

Khan, who is from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, claimed to be a “soldier” and warned of terror attacks against Britain. He said: “Until we feel secure, you will be our target. Until you stop the bombing, gassing, imprisonment and torture, we will not stop this fight.”

Khan is believed to be the ringleader behind the London bombings, in which 52 people died in four separate suicide bomb attacks – three on Tube trains and one on a bus. Khan was responsible for the blast on the Circle Line at Edgeware Road, which killed six people.

Khan said that the British public’s support for the government had made them terror targets. He said: "Your democratically elected governments continuously perpetuate atrocities against my people and your support of them makes you directly responsible, just as I am directly responsible for protecting and avenging my Muslim brothers and sisters.”

It is unclear where and when the tape was made.

The video also contained a recording of Ayman al Zawahri, believed to be the second in command in al Qaeda, claiming responsibility for the London attacks.

Al Zawahri warned of further attacks on London and blamed the Tony Blair’s policies for the attacks. He said: “I talk to you today about the blessed London battle, which came as a slap to the face of the tyrannical, crusader British arrogance. It’s a sip from the glass that the Muslims have been drinking from.

“Blair has brought catastrophes to the people in London and will bring more, God willing.”

The video has outraged families of the victims of the London bombings.
