Man shot by ‘trick or treat’ gang

A gang has attacked a man at his home in Merseyside, shouting ‘trick or treat’ before shooting him.

Merseyside Police said that the incident happened at a house in Acacia Road in Huyton.

A woman answered the front door of her home around 9:10pm on Monday night and was confronted by at least two men, dressed in dark clothing and wearing Halloween-style masks.

She called to a friend – a 31-year-old man, who was also at the house – to come to the front door and he was shot several times.

The man was taken to hospital, where he is described as being “critical but stable” following surgery.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Scarth said that police were “keeping an open mind” about the incident. He said that it was believed that the address had been targeted and that it was not connected to any other shooting.

DCI Scarth also said that house-to-house inquiries had been conducted near the scene and high visibility patrols had been stepped up.

Acacia Avenue has been closed while searches continue at the address.

Anyone with any information regarding the attack is asked to contact Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
