Lottery sales soar for £85 million jackpot

Lottery sales are expected to increase by more than 300% ahead of tonight's £85 million EuroMillions draw.

The £85 million potential jackpot is the largest in European lottery history. It has accumulated over the past nine weeks, as there have been no jackpot winners.

If a single ticket holder wins the jackpot, they will become even richer than Ireland's Dolores McNamara, who become the European Lottery's biggest ever winner last summer, when she won £79 million.

A spokesperson from the National Lottery said: "Tickets are selling like hot cakes up and down the country - and across the other eight participating countries in Europe. "

Players in Britain, Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland can take part in the EuroMillions draw.

In order to win the jackpot, players have to match five numbers between one and 50, and two 'Lucky Stars' - between one and nine.
