Jeshma killer sentenced to life

A Latvian man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of London teenager Jeshma Raithatha.

Viktor Dembovskis, 43, attacked the 17-year-old as she returned to her home in Greenford, west London on May 16 last year. He raped the teenager and then stabbed her to death. Her body was discovered eight days later.

The court heard how Dembovskis made a "den" in thick vegetation in Sudbury Hill, so that he could not be seen.

Dembovskis left the UK four days after the murder and returned to Latvia, but he was later extradited to stand trial at the Old Bailey.

The jury was told that he had previously been convicted of raping two women at knifepoint in Latvia in 1990 and 1999.

Judge Peter Beaumont sentenced Dembovskis to three life sentences and said that he would never be released.
