Man charged with firebomb murders

A man has been charged with the murder of two people killed during an arson attack on a south London convenience store.

Robert Torto, 32, from Stockwell Park Road, appeared at Greenwich Magistrates' Court today.

He was also charged with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life.

Mr Torto was remanded in custody to reappear before the Old Bailey on August 10.

Khizar Hayat, 40, was killed when the Pricecutter store in Clapham Road was attacked with a firebomb last Thursday afternoon. Another employee, Hamidi Hamidullah, 31, died in hospital yesterday.

Two other colleagues managed to escape with minor burns.

The attack followed two other arson attacks - one on a newsagent's in Tulse Hill on April 14 and the other at an off-license in South Norwood on April 20.
