Pair arrested over four deaths

Police investigating the deaths of a woman and three children in Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manchester have arrested a 40-year-old man from Burnage on suspicion of murder.

A 35-year-old woman from Burnage, who was arrested on Wednesday morning, is also being questioned by police in connection with the deaths.

The bodies of Uzma Rahan, 32, and her three children - Adam, 11m Abbas, eight, and six-year-old Henne - were discovered in a house in Turves Road on Sunday after police received reports of concern for welfare.

Post-mortem examinations have been carried out on the three children. They revealed that they all died as a result of serious head injuries.

The fourth post-mortem is expected to be carried out later on Wednesday.

The children's father, Rahan Arshad, 36, is still missing. His BMW 320 sports car was found in a car park at Heathrow airport on Monday morning. Police said that the car appeared to have been parked at the airport for several weeks.

Police are currently making enquiries to establish if he has travelled from the airport recently.

Officers are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious at the house or who has further information on Rahan's whereabouts to contact the major incident room on: 0161 856 7834 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
