Sir Bobby to undergo brain surgery

Former England manager Sir Bobby Robson is to undergo surgery to remove a brain tumour on Wednesday.

The 73-year-old, who led England to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 1990, fell ill while watching a match at former club Ipswich Town, where he is now club president, on August 5.

Sir Bobby, who currently works as a consultant for the Republic of Ireland team, had a tumour removed from his lung earlier this year. He also previously underwent surgery for bowel cancer in 1992 and for a rare form of skin cancer behind his eye in 1995.

Sir Bobby announced that he would have the operation at the weekend. He said that the tumour was small and that he should be able to make a full recovery.
