Man in court over Leicester killing

A man has appeared in court charged with attacking a man whose granddaughter was mauled to death by Rottweilers and killing his partner.

Scott Walker, 26, appeared before magistrates in Leicester charged with the murder of Debra Larn and causing grievous bodily harm to John Brightwell.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Leicester Crown Court on November 14.

Mr Brightwell, 50, suffered serious stab wounds and Ms Larn was fatally injured when they were attacked in their home in Grassington Close in Leicester in the early hours of Sunday morning.

On Saturday afternoon, Mr Brightwell's granddaughter Cadey-Lee Deacon died after being attacked by two Rottweiler dogs in the Rocket pub in Stephenson Drive in the New Parks area of Leicester on Saturday afternoon.

She was rushed to Leicester Royal Infirmary, but died from her injuries.

The child's parents are understood to have been looking after the pub while the child's grandparents - the landlords of the pub - were reportedly away on holiday.

Both dogs were removed from the pub and put down by a veterinary surgeon on Sunday.

Police said that the two incidents are a tragic coincidence and that they are not connected.
