Honda creates 700 UK jobs

Japanese car manufacturer Honda is to create an additional 700 jobs at its plant in Swindon, Wiltshire.

The company said that it is planning to increase production from 190,000 cars to 250,000 per year.

The new workers will be brought in to help deal with the demand for the three and five-door Civic models, as well as a new CR-V 4x4 which is due to be launched at the end of the year.

Honda sold more of its Civic range in eight months this year than it did in the whole of 2005.

The move will see the workforce at the Swindon plant increase to 4,900.

A spokesperson for Honda said that the move "clearly demonstrates Honda's long-term commitment to the region and to British manufacturing."
