Centre launched to tackle human trafficking
A new centre, which aims to tackle the problem of human trafficking has opened in Sheffield.
The Human Trafficking Centre will offer support and care for women who have been brought to Britain to work in the sex trade, but will also offer support for other people forced into jobs such as domestic servants, as well as the exploitation of children.
The centre will be run by South Yorkshire Police and will continue the work of Operation Pentameter, the UK's first co-ordinated police campaign to crack down on human trafficking.
Eighty-four have been rescued as part of Operation Pentameter, while more than 500 properties have been raided in both the UK and Ireland.
More than 230 people were arrested and 134 were charged.

Man Jailed For 'Horrific' Trafficking Offences
A man has been jailed for human trafficking and prostitution offences. Imre Orsos, 40, of Chorley Old Road, was sentenced to five years and three month's imprisonment after pleading guilty to two counts of trafficking persons into the UK for sexual exploitation and controlling prostitution for gain.

Woman Guilty Of Human Trafficking
A housewife who kept a Tanzanian woman as a modern-day slave in her Harrow bungalow has been sentenced after being found guilty of human trafficking. Saeeda Khan, a 68-year-old widow was found guilty of one count of trafficking people for exploitation under the Asylum and Immigration Act 2004 at Southwark Crown Court.

Groundbreaking research into human cloning gets go-ahead
The first licence to create human embryonic stem cells for cloning has been awarded to a research team based in Newcastle. Under the terms of the one-year licence granted to Newcastle Centre for Life, stem cells created using a technique called therapeutic cloning can only be used for research purposes only.
