DNA test for gran over football

A grandmother was arrested and ordered to provide a DNA sample after she was accused of stealing a football which landed in her garden.

Angela Hickling, 56, from Heanor, Derbyshire, was arrested on suspicion of theft after her neighbour Christopher Salisbury claimed that his sons had kicked a £60 match ball into her garden.

Mrs Hickling said that she had searched for the football but had been unable to find it.

However, police searched her home and then took her into custody, where she was ordered to provide a DNA sample and was also fingerprinted.

The case was subsequently dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Derbyshire Police said that they were looking into a complaint made by Mrs Hickling.
