Artist arrested over 'Dreamspace' deaths

The artist who created an inflatable sculpture in which two women died when it broke free from its moorings has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

Durham Police arrested Maurice Agis, 74, in connection with the incident, which occurred at the Riverside Park in Chester-le-Street on July 23.

He was attending Charing Cross police station by appointment when he was arrested. He has since been released on bail, pending further inquiries.

Elizabeth Collings, 68, and Claire Furmedge, 38, were both killed in the tragedy.

Thirteen people were injured when the 2,500 square metre 'Dreamspace' artwork broke free from its moorings and soared 100ft in the air after being hit with a gust of wind.
