British man found dead in India

A British holidaymaker has been found hanged in a town in India.

Stephen Bennett, 40, from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, was found dead in the town of Roha, south-east of Mumbai, on December 12.

Mr Bennett had been on a week-long holiday in India and had been due to return home for Christmas.

The Foreign Office confirmed that Indian police were treating the death as murder. A spokesperson said that four Indian men had been arrested but said that the Foreign Office did not know if they had been charged.

Roha is an industrial town with a population of around 90,000, located 75 miles south-east of Mumbai.

The town is also 20 miles from the tourist destination of Murud Janjira and is served by the popular Konkan Railway service.
