Sex offender jailed for life for kidnap and rape
A convicted sex offender has been sentenced to life for the kidnap and rape of a 15-year-old girl.
Alan Grant, also known as Alan Weston, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, pleaded guilty at Mold Crown Court, and the judge recommended that he should serve a minimum of seven years.
Grant kidnapped the girl in Wrexham in north Wales last October. He held her captive for 15 hours, before eventually freeing her 70 miles away in Bangor.
Grant has a history of violent sexual offending. He was sentenced to 12 years in 1991 for raping a woman and beating up her husband in the couple's home in West Sussex.
Grant broke into the couple's home wearing a mask and armed with a pump-action shotgun. He raped the 26-year-old woman after tying up her husband.
The attack, which became known as the 'Straw Dogs' attack after the film in which a similar incident occurred, happened after Grant escaped from Stafford Prison, where he was serving five years for burglary.

Man remanded over bath girl abduction
A 34-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the kidnap, rape and indecent assault of a six-year-old girl, abducted from the bath in her home. Peter Ivor Smith - also known as Voisey - from Blyth, Northumberland was arrested on Tuesday morning in connection with the attack, which took place on December 27 last year.

Three men have been jailed for a total of 29 years after violently kidnapping a 21-year-old man and holding him hostage for four days. The trio, from south east London, were sentenced at Croydon Crown Court. Deji Adegunle, 22, was given 13 years for conspiracy to commit kidnap, false imprisonment, and blackmail.

Night Stalker Convicted
A 53-year-old man, dubbed the Night Stalker, who terrorised the elderly in a 17-year long campaign of burglary and sexual assault, has been convicted at Woolwich Crown Court today. Delroy Grant, of Brockley, south east London, was charged with 29 counts, which included rape, burglary and indecent assault.
