Man remanded over bath girl abduction
A 34-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the kidnap, rape and indecent assault of a six-year-old girl, abducted from the bath in her home.
Peter Ivor Smith - also known as Voisey - from Blyth, Northumberland was arrested on Tuesday morning in connection with the attack, which took place on December 27 last year.
The girl was snatched from her bath in her home in Willington Quay, North Tyneside and was driven off and sexually assaulted. She was then found naked in a lane near her home around fifteen minutes later.
Mr Smith was remanded in custody to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on April 13.
A 25-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice has been released on police bail.

An 11-month-old baby has died after being mauled by a pet dog, police in Lancashire have said. The baby girl, from Emily Street in Blackburn, died in hospital at about 23:00 on Monday. Police have arrested a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of child neglect in connection with the incident.

A four-year-old girl has died after being hit by a truck in Bath. A Scania tipper truck hit the girl as she walked with her grandmother on Lansdown Lane, Bath, at about 16:00 on Monday. Three men in the truck where also killed when the vehicle lost control on a steep hill, hitting several cars.
