Muslim activist released on bail

Muslim activist Abu Izzadeen has been released on conditional bail after appearing in court charged with encouraging terrorism.

Mr Izzadeen, 31, was arrested under Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006 in Leyton High Road, east London around 9:30am on Thursday.

It is thought that his arrest relates to a speech he made in Birmingham last year.

He is next due to appear in court on March 23.

Mr Izzadeen made the news last September when he heckled Home Secretary John Reid during his first public meeting with Muslims, calling him "an enemy of Islam".
