Seven people arrested in pitbull raids
Seven people have been arrested in a series of co-ordinated raids designed to break up a suspected organised dog-fighting ring in Teeside.
Police officers wearing protective clothing and carrying dog shields went to five properties in Middlesbrough, Eston, South Bank and Georgetown.
Special Operation Unit Inspectors from the RSPCA supported them.
Four pitbull-type dogs and a terrier were recovered from houses in Kestral Ave Brambles Farm, Myriddin Baker Road Eston, King Street South Bank and two from a house in Bankside Court, Eston.
They have been seized and taken to secure kennels outside the area.
Four men were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the breeding or buying of dangerous dogs for illegal dog fights. Another man and a woman were both arrested later.
The operation, codenamed Operation Bale, was launched following a long investigation, which began when police were given footage of a dog fight.
A woman was also arrested at another address as part of the same operation following the discovery of a cannabis farm with plants valued at over £10,000 in Westcroft Road in Grangetown.
