Premiership footballer arrested over assault
Premiership footballer Joey Barton is understood to have been arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.
The Manchester City midfielder is reported to have been questioned in connection with an alleged argument with a taxi driver in the Wavertree area of Liverpool earlier this month.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that a 24-year-old man from Widnes had been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and assault and said that he had been bailed until May, pending further inquiries.

French Police Arrest Convicted On-The-Run Rapist
A 56-year-old convicted rapist who went on the run before his trial has been captured in France. Police in Calais arrested George Doulat, from Filey, North Yorkshire, on Monday. In his absence, Doulat was convicted at Bradford Crown Court for the rape, attempted rape and sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman in 2012. He was sentenced to 10 years.

Three Teenagers Arrested On Suspicion Of Criminal Damage
Officers arrested three teenagers on suspicion of criminal damage after a front door of a home and a number of cars were sprayed with graffiti in Ebley. Police are investigating the criminal damage which happened overnight between Thursday May 10 and today, Friday May 11, in Foxmoor Lane and Golden Jubilee Way.

Nigel Evans Rearrested For Indecent Assault
Nigel Evans, the House of Commons Deputy Speaker, has been arrested on suspicion of indecent assault and sexual touching of two further alleged victims. The 55-year-old had previously been arrested by Lancashire Police on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and three indecent assaults.

Man arrested over abduction of girl from bath
Police investigating the abduction of a six-year-old girl from her bath last December have arrested a man. A 34-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday morning at an address in Blyth, Northumberland, on suspicion of abduction and serious sexual assault. A 25-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
