Britain set for 'wet and windy' Bank Holiday

Britain looks set to experience a cold, wet and windy Bank Holiday weekend, according to the latest forecast from the Met Office.

Forecasters have predicted a mainly fine start to the weekend, but heavy rain, strong winds and much colder weather will set in across many parts of the UK.

Rainfall of up to 50mm is expected in some areas.

Along with the heavy rain and strong winds, there will also be a sharp drop in temperatures, down to single figures in some places.

The AA said that around 18 million vehicles are expected to be on the roads this weekend, with favourite destinations including Brighton, Blackpool and Newquay.

However, the Met Office is forecasting a "gradually improving picture" over the week to come.
