Mother quizzed over daughters' deaths

Police have been granted a 12-hour extension to further question a 39-year-old woman in connection with the murder of her two teenage daughters.

Rekha Kumari-Baker was arrested following the discovery of the bodies of her daughters Davina, 16, and 13-year-old Jasmine at her home in The Crofters in Stretham, Cambridgeshire on Wednesday morning.

The bodies were removed from the house around 10pm last night. Post-mortems are due to be conducted on Thursday. However, it is believed that both girls died from stab wounds.

Formal identification is not expected to take place until late on Friday.

It is believed that Davina lived with her father, David Baker, who was separated from their mother, while Jasmine lived with her mother.

The area around the house remains sealed off.

Both girls had pages on the networking site Bebo and their friends have been posting tributes to the sisters there.

On Thursday, Mr Baker released a statement, describing his daughters as "irreplaceable". The statement said: "We have so many good memories. We all used to sing together and go shopping. I was so proud to walk down the street with my two beautiful daughters."
