Man remanded over couple's murder

A man has been remanded in custody, charged with the murder of a couple who were found dead in their home in Manchester.

The bodies of Dennis White, 61, and his wife Maria, 49, were discovered by police in their home in Belvoir Avenue in Levenshulme on June 1.

Post-mortems revealed that the couple died from head injuries caused by being hit with a heavy blunt instrument.

Forty-two-year-old Derek Blair - also known as Derek Billington - appeared before Manchester magistrates court on Thursday.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Manchester Crown Court on June 21.

A 36-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy were previously arrested on suspicion of the murders. They have been bailed until July 9 pending further inquiries.

Former Royal Butler Admits Child Abuse Offences
A former royal butler to the Queen has today pleaded guilty to a number of child sex offences. Paul Kidd, 55, of Stalybridge, Greater Manchester appeared in court today accused of a number of charges including the possession of child porn, indecent assault and sexual activity with a child.
