Man Charged Over Hospital Murder

A man has been charged in connection with the murder of a female patient at a psychiatric hospital in Greater Manchester.

The 58-year-old woman was assaulted in a ward at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale on Monday evening.

She was taken to Rochdale Royal Infirmary, but died later.

A 36-year-old man, believed to be a patient at the same unit, is due to appear before Rochdale Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

A post-mortem is due to be carried out on the woman.

A 28-year-old Huddersfield man suspected of injuring two detectives in a firearm attack has died in hospital. The man, who has not been named, had been questioned by police officers at the Fleece Inn pub on Elland Road in Ripponden, West Yorkshire, yesterday afternoon.

Man Stabbed In Rochdale Home
Police in Greater Manchester are hunting robbers who attacked a man with a kitchen knife. Three men burst through the front door of the 28-year-old victim's house on Stamford Street, Rochdale at about 8.40pm on Sunday 20 December 2009. They stabbed him a number of times with a kitchen knife and demanded he handed over money.

Wounded PC to return to beat
The young Police Constable shot and seriously wounded while investigating a break-in in Nottingham has said that she plans to return to the beat. PC Rachael Bown, who has since left hospital, spent a week in intensive care after she was shot in the stomach, but has said that the incident will not stop her doing her job.

Man Charged Over Pensioner's Mugging
A man has been charged over a robbery which resulted in an elderly woman's teeth being knocked out. On 28 October the 74-year-old victim was approached and pushed to the ground on Drake Street in Rochdale. Her handbag was stolen and her two front teeth were knocked out in the fall. A 48-year-old man has since been charged with the robbery.
