Wounded PC to return to beat

The young Police Constable shot and seriously wounded while investigating a break-in in Nottingham has said that she plans to return to the beat.

PC Rachael Bown, who has since left hospital, spent a week in intensive care after she was shot in the stomach, but has said that the incident will not stop her doing her job.

She underwent two emergency operations following the shooting at Queen Medical Centre in Nottingham.

PC Bown said that she had received hundreds of cards and gifts from well-wishers and had been overwhelmed and touched by the support people had shown.

She said: "The support I've had from colleagues and the force has been fantastic.

"It's unbelievable. I still can't quite take it in."

She said that she planned to write to thank as many people as possible during her recovery at home.

Doctors had assured her that her recovery was going well and that they are pleased with her progress.

A 24-year-old man from Bilborough in Nottingham has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of PC Bown.
