McCanns To Sue Newspaper For Libel

The parents of missing British girl Madeleine McCann have confirmed that that they are to take legal action against a Portuguese newspaper, which has claimed that they killed their daughter.

Last week, Tal & Qual ran a front-page story, which claimed that police believed that Gerry and Kate McCann killed the four-year-old either in an accident or with a fatal dose of drugs.

A statement released by the couple said that they were "deeply hurt" by the report, which they described as "speculative" and "defamatory".

Portuguese police have stressed that the McCanns are not suspects in Madeleine's disappearance.

Madeleine disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in May, while her parents had dinner at a nearby restaurant.
