Clinton Planning Irish Fundraiser
Bill Clinton is reportedly planning to hold a fundraising event in Ireland to help raise money for his wife, Hilary's campaign to become US President.
The Clinton Campaign is understood to be planning to hold a fundraiser in Ireland to target Democrat supporters living in the country to help raise some of the 370 million euros needed to fund Mrs Clinton's election campaign.
The Clinton Campaign is currently raising money at the rate of around 9 million euros a month in the States.
The Republican and Democrat parties are expected to choose their presidential candidates in early 2008 before the election begins in November.
Irish-born New York publisher Niall O'Dowd, who is on the finance committee of the Clinton Campaign team told reporters: "I know there is a plan by the Clinton Campaign to hold a fundraiser in Ireland for American citizens and green card holders.
"There is a view that raising money abroad is actually an option now because there is such intense pressure to raise money within the US for all the political parties.
"A fundraiser in Ireland could actually work very well for Hilary Clinton because there is a tremendous amount of support among ex-pat Americans here for her."
It is not clear if fellow Democratic Party candidate Barack Obama, who has ancestral links to Monegall in Co. Tipperary, has any plans to fundraise in Ireland.

The former US President Bill Clinton is to visit Londonderry in Northern Ireland later today and is expected to make a speech on how to build economic prosperity in the city. The trip is just weeks ahead of a Washington summit on the NI economy, which will be hosted by his wife Hillary - now the US Secretary of State.

Clinton UK Visit Confirmed
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will discuss a wide range of issues during her visit to the UK and Ireland later this week. The United State's most powerful diplomat, and a former First Lady, will visit London, Belfast and Dublin as part of the trip. Mrs Clinton is expected to arrive in the UK on October 9 and travel to Moscow a week later.

George W Bush has waded in on the political unrest in Northern Ireland, urging support for the devolution of policing and justice powers. The former US president called on Conservative leader David Cameron to use his influence within the Ulster Unionist Party to cajole them into backing today's Assembly vote on the Hillsborough Castle Agreement.
