Madeleine's Mother Questioned By Police

Kate McCann, the mother of missing British girl Madeleine McCann, is being re-interviewed by Portuguese police.

Her husband, Gerry McCann, will be re-interviewed tomorrow.

Mrs McCann arrived at Portimao police station in the Algarve at 2pm local time on Thursday. She was accompanied by her lawyer Carlos Pinto de Abreu.

A statement released on behalf of Mrs McCann before the interview appealed to her daughter's abductor to let her go. It said: "It is not too late - please let her go or call the police."

Mr McCann is expected to be questioned at the same police station tomorrow.

A spokesperson for the couple told reporters that they were being formally interviewed as witnesses, not as suspects.

Police had previously said that the McCanns were not suspects in the case.

The development follows the revelation that Portuguese police have received partial results of DNA tests conducted in the UK.

Samples taken from the McCann's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, including suspected blood specks, were being analysed by experts at Birmingham's Forensic Science Service.

Four-year-old Madeleine disappeared from her family's holiday apartment on May 3.
