Public Prosecutor Given Madeleine Files
Files on the Madeleine McCann case have been given to the Portuguese public prosecutor.
Prosecutors will now examine reports of three samples of Madeleine's DNA discovered by police and decide whether to charge her parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, with an offence.
The move comes after it was revealed that scientists found a full DNA match to Madeleine in a car hired by her parents after the four-year-old went missing on May 3.
The couple have now both been declared as formal suspects in the case. Both deny any involvement in their daughter's disappearance.
Mr and Mrs McCann returned to their home in Rothley, Leicestershire on Sunday, after spending four months based in the Algarve in Portugal, following Madeleine's disappearance from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
The couple are not subject to bail conditions, travel restrictions or charges, but they can be recalled to Portugal with five days' notice.
According to reports, Portuguese police have played down reports that the DNA found in the hire car was a 100% match to Madeleine.
Alipio Ribeiro, head of the Policia Judiciaria, indicated to RTP, the Portuguese state broadcaster, that the forensic tests had not been conclusive.
According to a report on Sky News, the DNA found in the car was an 88% match with Madeleine's DNA. It was also reported that large amounts of Madeleine's hair was found in the car.

Nearly 200 crimes missed by DNA failings
Nearly 200 crimes went undetected due to failings over DNA samples, it has been revealed. The failure to archive DNA evidence resulted in 183 crimes going undetected, including one paedophile offence, three robberies, nine burglaries, 19 drugs offences and 62 thefts, the National DNA Database annual report revealed.
