England Hit By 'Mini-Tornadoes'

England has been hit by a series of mini-tornadoes, causing damage to homes and vehicles and uprooting trees.

The powerful gusts of wind have caused chaos in a number of areas throughout the Midlands and the south of England.

One squall hit Northampton, where an empty school bus was damaged by falling branches.

Thirty-five homes were also damaged by strong winds in Nuneaton.

Other affected areas included Farnborough, Luton and Nottingham.

There have been no injuries reported so far.

Flood Warning For England And Scotland
Parts of north England, Scotland and Wales have been issued with severe flooding warnings, as forecasters predict heavy downpours over the next few days. In total 32 British regions have been identified by the Environment Agency as being at risk. North west England is expected to be worst hit.

Woman Comes Round After 19 Day Coma
A woman who has been in a coma for 19 days after prematurely giving birth to twins, who later died, has come round. 27-year-old Jocelyn Bennett called an ambulance to her home on 29 October, complaining of severe pains. She was 32 weeks pregnant with twins at the time.

Expenses Watchdog Backs MP Pay Rise
The Commons expenses watchdog has backed a plan to give MPs a £6,000 pay rise – bringing their yearly salary to £74,000. However, while recommending the pay rise, the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) has also called for cuts to perks, including meal allowances, taxis and pension schemes.

House prices soar to nearly £200,000
House prices in England and Wales have risen to nearly £200,000 according to the latest figures published by the Land Registry. The price of an average home in England and Wales has increased by 7.71%, from £184,924 to £199,184 in one year.

Townshend cautioned for accessing child sex site
The Who's Pete Townshend has been formally cautioned today and will be placed on a register for sex criminals for five years after he admitted visiting an internet site containing child porn. Townshend (57) was formally cautioned at Kingston police station in London and was fingerprinted and a DNA sample was taken.
