Nine Arrests Following Fatal London Shooting

One man was killed and another was seriously injured following a shooting incident in a street in southwest London in the early hours of Monday morning.

Nine people have now been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police were called after reports of shots being fired in the vicinity of Streatham High Road around 5:20am.

Two men were found injured. One man, believed to be in his thirties, was taken to Mayday Hospital in Croydon, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead. Police have confirmed that they have identified the man, but they have not yet released his name.

The other man was also admitted to a south London hospital, also suffering from gunshot wounds. He is reported to be in a serious condition.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that two or more vehicles were seen leaving the scene after the shooting. A firearm was also recovered at the scene and it is now being forensically analysed.

Operation Trident, the Met's unit which investigates gun crime in the capital's black community, is investigating the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Horsley said: "There are two nightclubs in the vicinity and there could well have been people leaving them who may have seen something of the incident."

Police have appealed for anyone with any information to contact them on: 0208 733 4648.
