Search Moves Indoors At Margate Death House

Searches are continuing on the upper floors of a house in Margate, Kent where the bodies of two teenage girls were discovered.

The search of the ground floors of the house in Irvine Drive has now been completed and forensic archaeologists began examining the first floor and attic space on Monday. Police are also digging up the front garden of the house as part of their search.

Sniffer dogs have also been brought in to help in the search.

The body of 15-year-old Scottish schoolgirl Vicky Hamilton, from Redding near Falkirk, was found in the house on November 12. She disappeared in Bathgate in February 1991. She was last seen waiting for a bus.

The body of another girl, believed to be 18-year-old Dinah McNicol, from Tillingham in Essex, was found in the house on Friday. She disappeared after hitching a lift following a trip with friends to a music festival in Liphook in Hampshire in August 1991. She was last seen in a car with a man on the M25. Neither the car nor driver has ever been traced.

Full identification of the second body has not yet taken place, but Miss McNicol's father, Ian McNicol, visited the house in Irvine Drive on Monday.

Peter Tobin, 61, who used to live in the house where the bodies were found, has been charged with Vicky Hamilton's murder. He appeared before Linlithgow Sheriff Court last Thursday and is due to reappear in court next week.

It is understood that a number of other unsolved murder cases are being reexamined following the discovery of the bodies in the Margate house.
