Life Sentence For Teen's Killer

A man has been jailed for life for stabbing a teenage boy to death in Kent.

Peter Connolly, 31, from Carisbrooke Gardens in Peckham, was ordered to serve a minimum sentence of 15 years after being found guilty of the murder of Christopher Alaneme in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent in April last year.

However, Judge Mr Justice Godring said that the stabbing was not a race attack.

During the trial at Maidstone Crown Court, the jury heard how Mr Alaneme suffered a fatal stab, which penetrated his liver, after he and his friends were attacked after allegedly being racially abused.

The court heard how Connolly had been drinking and taking drugs before attacking both Mr Alaneme and taxi driver Mark Davies, an innocent bystander.

Connolly was also given a 10 year sentence for the attack on Mr Davies, with the periods to run concurrently.

Two other men - Andrew Giblin, 28, from Bromyard House in Commercial Way in Peckham and Terence Beaney, 25, from Rideout Street in Woolwich - were cleared of both charges yesterday.

Earlier in the trial, the judge directed the jury to clear two other men - Sean Duhig, 23, and Gerry Duhig, 27, both of Melbury Drive in Camberwell - of murder.
