Buckingham Palace 'Swept For Bugs'

Buckingham Palace was regularly checked for bugging devices by MI5, the inquest into the deaths of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Al Fayed has heard.

Lord Fellowes, the Queen's former private secretary and Princess Diana's brother-in-law, revealed the details during questioning about the 'Camilla-gate' and 'Squidgy-gate' tape scandals, involving both the princess and Prince of Wales.

However, he said that the checks of the rooms used by the Queen were made only to provide "reassurance".

Lord Fellowes also denied any involvement in an alleged plot to kill Princess Diana. Dodi's father, Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed, has alleged that there was a plot, orchestrated by MI6, to kill the princess and has claimed that Lord Fellowes was involved.

At the inquest on Tuesday, Lord Fellowes denied the claims and said that he had not been in Paris on the night that Diana and Dodi were killed in a car crash, but was attending a talk by 'Rumpole of the Bailey' creator John Mortimer at a church in Norfolk.

Princess Diana, Dodi Al Fayed and their driver Henri Paul were killed in a car crash in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris in August 1997.

The inquest continues.
