Man Guilty Of Soldier Kidnap Plot

A fifth man has been convicted in connection with a plot to kidnap and behead a British soldier.

Zahoor Iqbal, 30, from Birmingham, was found guilty at Leicester Crown Court on Friday of being involved in Parviz Khan's organisation as supplying equipment to terrorists in Pakistan. He has been remanded in custody to await sentencing.

Another man, Amjad Mahmood, 32, and also from Birmingham, was found not guilty of assisting in the commissioning acts of terrorism.

However, the jury at Leicester Crown Court will continue deliberating another charge against Mr Mahmood – that he knew about Khan's plan to film the beheading of the soldier, but failed to tell authorities.

Last month, Khan admitted to plotting to kidnap and murder a British Muslim soldier, as well as other offences.

Three other men – Basiru Gassama, 30, Mohammed Irfan, 31 and Hamid Elasmar, 44, have also admitted to other related terrorism offences.
