Valentine's Day Tragedy In Venice As Tourist Found Dead
A British man who disappeared while on Valentine's trip to Venice with his girlfriend has been found dead.
Richard Raynor, 23, from Doncaster, disappeared on Thursday, after he went to find a taxi following a night out with his girlfriend.
It has been reported that his body was found under a bridge connecting Venice lagoon to the mainland.
On Sunday, a spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office said: "We can confirm that sadly, the body found in Venice is that of the missing British national."
According to reports, Mr Raynor's body was identified by his father, William, who had flown to Venice in order to search for his son.
It is understood that an elderly couple later returned Mr Raynor's mobile phone, wallet and room key to the couple's hotel, but it is not known where they were found.
Mr Raynor and his girlfriend had arrived in Venice on Wednesday for a three-day break.
A spokesperson for Italian police told reporters that there were no indications that Mr Raynor's death had been violent, but said that they were not ruling out any possibilities.
