Disagreement If Children 'Were Pushed' Over Hotel Balcony

An inquest into the death of six-year-old Liam Hogan at a hotel in Crete has heard how he was "pushed" from a balcony along with his sister - although other evidence conflicts with that version.

Liam, from Bristol, died in a fall from the balcony of the room at the Petra Mare Hotel in Ierapetra in August 2006. His two-year-old sister Mia broke several limbs, but later made a full recovery.

The children's father, John Hogan, 33, was cleared of murder during a trial last January. The judge ruled that his mental state made him unaccountable for his actions.

Sarah Davidson told the inquest how she had heard a "horrific" row and saw a man push the two children from the balcony before jumping himself.

However, Mrs Davidson's husband Ian told the inquest that the man appeared to be trying to stop the children from falling from the balcony.

Mr Hogan will not attend the inquest. He is being monitored in a psychiatric facility in Athens.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Mr Hogan is unlikely to face any further charges when he eventually returns to the UK.

The inquest continues.
