Supermodel Charged Over Heathrow Scuffle

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been charged with assaulting two police officers at Heathrow Airport.

Ms Campbell's lawyer, Simon Nicholls, said that the model had been charged when she attended Heathrow police station to answer bail over a reported scuffle in April.

Mr Nicholls said that Ms Campbell "respects the decision" and that she hopes the matter will be dealt with "expeditiously".

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Ms Cambell, 38, faced five charges including three counts of assaulting a constable and using abusive words to the crew of the airplane. Police say the assault charges related to two officers.

Ms Campbell has been ordered to appear at Uxbridge Magistrastes' Court on June 20.

The alleged incident occurred on an outbound flight to Los Angeles from Heathrow's Terminal 5.

The charge of three counts of assaulting a constable carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a fine of up to £5,000.

The model, dressed in a dark suit and sunglasses, refused to make a comment to journalists.

In 2000, Ms Campbell pleaded guilty in Toronto to an assault charge for attacking an assistant while filming in 1998.

In January 2007, the model pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in New York for throwing her cell phone at her maid in a row over jeans.

She was ordered to complete community service and attend an anger-management programme.

Ms Campbell's first foray into the spotlight was at age seven when she was cast as a pupil to appear in a music video for Bob Marley's song 'Is This Love?'
