NEWS IN BRIEF

Flash Floods Death

A teenager has died after becoming trapped in a storm drain following torrential rain. A second youth who was rescued has been admitted to hospital. Emergency services had rescued the two boys but were unable to save one of the victim. The culvert, under Eastfield Road in Witney, Oxfordshire, had become flooded after a day of heavy rain. A spokewoman for Thames Valley Police said that the seventeen-year-old boy had "got trapped beneath a concrete culvert in a flooded area". He was taken to Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he was pronounced dead. It is understood the teen had been playing in a field near Eastfield Road when the accident happened. The Oxfordshire coroner will carry out a post mortem. Fire and rescue crews have been called to a number of flood-related incidents in Thame, Chinnor and Wheatley.

Man Charged In Restaurant Blast Investigation

A 22-year-old man has been charged with offences in connection to a restaurant explosion. Nicky Reilly, 22, from Plymouth, has been charged with three offences - one under the Terrorism Act 2006 and two under the Explosive Substances Act 1883. Mr Reilly suffered injuries when a device reportedly made of nails and chemicals exploded at the Giraffe Café, Exeter, on May 22. A spokesman for the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary said: "Although one man has now been charged, this remains a complex, live investigation. We are therefore keen to speak with anyone who may have information about the man arrested at the scene of the explosion on 22 May, or others they believe may be involved in any capacity." Police have also made a plea to the public not to make assumptions about people's involvement in the case based on their appearance, ethnic origin or faith. Two other men remain in custody, helping police with their enquiries. Mr Reilly is due to appear before magistrates at an undisclosed location.
