Footballer In Court Over Death Crash

A professional goalkeeper had appeared in court today charged with causing the deaths of two young brothers by dangerous driving.

Luke McCormick, 24, who plays for Plymouth Argyle, faces three charges in total – two charges of causing death by dangerous driving and one of driving with excess alcohol.

A charge for driving without insurance was dropped. Prosecutor Robert Price said it appeared to be an "administrative error" as the defendant had produced an insurance document that was accepted as "genuine".

Mr McCormick, of White Lady Road, Plymstock, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for a preliminary hearing over the deaths, and, watched by the dead boys' mother, Amanda, 30, - who remained "composed" at the hearing - the case was adjourned until 8 September.

Arron Peak, 10, and his brother Ben, 8, died after a vehicle collision on the M6 in Staffordshire.

The brothers were travelling in a Toyota Previa, with their father Philip, 37, when it left the carriageway after a crash allegedly involving Mr McCormick's vehicle.

It is reported that the victims' car careered down an embankment and ran into trees at the bottom.

The boy's father, Philip Peak, 37, suffered a broken back and neck in the crash and was treated at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

The three other occupants of the vehicle, a man, 49, and his sons, eight and 15, were treated in hospital for minor injuries.
