Elderly Woman's Body Found In Woods

An elderly woman has been found dead in woodland in Dorset. Identification of the body has yet to be completed but it is believed that the victim is an 84-year-old from Donhead in Wiltshire. The body was found near Compton Abas in Dorset shortly after 11.20am on Sunday. Police say they are uncertain as to when formal identification can be completed but a post mortem examination revealed the cause of death as multiple fractures to the head by a blunt instrument. A 45-year-old local man has been arrested by Wiltshire police on Sunday morning on suspicion of murder and has been detained at Salisbury Police station. The man is yet to be questioned and has undergone medical assessment and treatment. Search teams are currently carrying out a detailed search of the area and house-to-house enquiries in Donhead.

Police Investigate Playground Death

Police are investigating the death of a teenager in a playground in Bedfordshire.

The 17-year-old who has not been identified, is from Luton, and is thought to have been playing with friends at Abbotswood Park, Abbotswood Road, on Sunday.

Detectives are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, which occurred around 5.10pm. A post mortem will be carried out later today to establish the cause of death.

British Transport Police investigating the death of a woman have said that she may have been trying to save a dog when she was hit by a train. The 22-year-old woman was struck by a train close to Ainsdale station near Southport, Merseyside at about 15:00 on Wednesday. Transport police said a dog was also found dead at the scene.

A police officer has been found guilty of knocking down and killing a schoolgirl by dangerous driving. Pc John Dougal, 41, a qualified advanced driver, was travelling at 94mph without blue lights or sirens, just moments before knocking down and killing 16-year-old schoolgirl Hayley Adamson in Newcastle in May.

Release Of Police Killer Described As 'Sickening'
The release of a man convicted of killing three unarmed police officers in 1966 has been described as "sickening". Harry Roberts, now aged 78, has been released from prison after serving 48 years for 1966 murders of three unarmed police officers in Shepherd's Bush in west London.
