Man Arrested Over Holiday Grandmother Death

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a British grandmother who was found dead in Tunisia.

Durham Police say that Pauline Richardson, 64, of Bishop Auckland, was found dead on Tuesday in Port Elkantaoui.

A Tunisian man has been arrested in connection with her death.

A Durham Police spokesman said Mrs Richardson, a widow, was a "regular visitor" to the country and had been on holiday with friends.

"Durham Police are liaising with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and providing support for her family," he said.

He added that a "stunned family" were trying to come to terms "with the death of a loved one in Tunisia".

It is reported that Mrs Richardson's daughter, Beverley Sains, her husband Mark and children, Richard, 22 and Natalie, 10 are "devastated" by the news.

Mrs Sains said in a statement that her mother was a "lovely person" who was "bubbly, friendly, caring to everyone" and "full of life".

"To be told that she has been killed is so hard to accept. It has left us all totally numb," she said.

Police have appealed for witnesses after a female special constable was stabbed to death outside her home in Wembley, north-west London. Nisha Patel-Nasri, 29, was off duty when she was attacked late last night in Sudbury Avenue. She was found in her nightclothes in the street by neighbours.

On Tuesday, Italian Mario Scaramella said that he met with Mr Litvinenko on November 1, when he first fell ill, and that both had discussed email death threats.

Poorest children have highest death from injury risk
Children from the poorest families in England and Wales face greater risks of dying from injury than children in all other social groups, a study has claimed. Ten years ago, the death rate from injury and poisoning for children in the lowest social class was five times greater than that for children in the highest social class.
