Motorist Killed In Police Chase

A motorist has been killed on a motorway in County Durham after his car was hit by a stolen vehicle which was being chased by police.

Officers in cars and a helicopter were trying to stop the Mitsubishi vehicle as it sped along the north-bound carriageway of the A1 motorway.

Th car flipped and hit a Peugeout which was travelling in the other direction.

The driver of the Peugeout died at the scene, and the man in the Mitsubishi was also injured and is currently undergoing surgery at the University Hospital.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been informed and are launching an investigation.

The A1 remains closed in both directions.

Three people have died after a car crashed into a hairdressers' studio in Bradford. Police have said that a black Mitsubishi Evo crashed into the stone building near the junction of Thornton Road and Kipping Lane just after 11pm on Monday.

Six Injured In Police Vehicle Collision
Six people have been injured in a police car collision with a taxi in Sunderland. The Northumbria police vehicle was making its way along Corporation Road in Sunderland in response to a reported assault when it collided with a Citroen Xsara taxi on Sunday. The accident happened at the junction of Villette Road just after 4.15pm.

Two more arrested over attempted car bombings
Police investigating the attempted car bombings in London and Glasgow airport have arrested two more people. Two men, aged 28 and 25, were arrested in the Paisley area, west of Glasgow on Sunday night Five people are still being held in connection with the attacks, but it is believed that at least one suspect remains on the run.

Al Fayed Denies Child Assault Claims
Harrods boss Mohamed al Fayed has vehemently denied a newspaper report alleging he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl, after voluntarily speaking to police. Mr al Fayed was questioned 'under caution' for 30 minutes, at a London police station yesterday, during which he denied the Sun newspaper's claims.
