Scout Leader Found Dead On Hiking Trip
A "experienced" hiker has been found dead after going missing on a trip to Liechtenstein.
The British scout leader was found dead after he apparently plunged 1,000ft down a ravine.
Thomas Moore, 21, from Stevenage in Hertfordshire, left the group expedition to hike solo up the Mittagsspitz mountain.
Colleagues reported the scout leader missing on Saturday morning when he failed to return and informed his family who flew into the country to help with the search.
Mr Moore's body was found two days later by search teams.
A Scout Association spokesman said Mr Moore, an assistant explorer, had travelled to Liechtenstein on an expedition organised by Hertfordshire Scouts.
"He informed others he was going to walk some local ridges. He took with him a day sack, some money and his passport," he said.
It is understood Mr Moore had informed the group of 50 scouts that he would be back in time to join the main party on its scheduled return to the UK on Saturday morning and when he didn't, a helicopter was deployed and sniffer dogs sent out with mountain guides as fears grew for his safety.
The university student's body was then found by search teams on Monday at the bottom of a ravine.
"When Tom didn't return other members of the Hertfordshire leadership team alerted the local police and a search was initiated," the spokesman added.
"Our thoughts are with Tom's family at this sad time."
The rest of the Hertfordshire expedition members and leadership team have arrived home safely in the UK.
Mr Moore's parents Diane and Pete will bring his body home today.
His mother said: "We are in complete shock and are totally devastated.
"Tom was an experience scout so it's a mystery why this has happened."
Mr Moore was also a "passionate" green campaigner, who had ambitions of becoming an MP for the Green Party and stood in the May elections in Stevenage.
He was studying environmental science at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.
He was planning a trip to Mongolia, China and Russia.

A 14-year-old teenager from the Pegasus Explorer Scout Unit has died in a swimming accident at the Lillaz Falls, in the Gran Paradiso National Park of the Italian Alps on Sunday. The incident happened at about 1,800m above sea level while the scouts were jumping into the water, where inspectors were waiting for them during one of their activities.

UK Scout Association Considers Atheist Oath
A consultation has been launched by the UK Scout Association to see if members would back a Scout Promise for those who feel unable to pledge a "duty to God". Versions of the oath already exist for the Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist faiths, but this is the first time an alternative oath for atheists has been considered.

Keith David Cutler, 57, of Knowles Close, West Drayton, was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Friday for 10 child sex offences and being in possession of 257 indecent images of children.
