Man Bailed Over Fatal Stabbing

A man held over the fatal stabbing of a teenager near a bus garage in Walthamstow, east London has been released on bail.

Charles Junior Hendricks, also known as CJ, was found lying wounded near Selborne Road, at around 1.40am on Sunday.

Police say they saw two or three males running away from the area.

Mr Hendricks was pronounced dead in Whipps Cross Hospital in east London.

A post mortem is due to take place.

The 19-year-old man was bailed but a 17-year-old youth remains in custody.

The 17-year-old had a minor slash wound to the arm and was treated in hospital.

Floral tributes have been laid for the victim close to where he was found.

Friends of the teenager left notes at the scene, one read: "I will never forget you. You will always be there in my memories, in my heart."

Police sources say CJ may well have known his attackers and it is though the stabbing could have taken place following a dispute.

The murder led to the cancellation of Walthamstow's celebration of the handover of the Olympics to London.

A meeting is due to be held of the leaders and mayors of the five borough hosting the 2012 Games to discuss how to tackle knife crime.

Mr Hendricks is the 24th teenager to be die as a result of violent crime in the capital this year.
